Marv’s Garage: Gatebil is car enthusiast for “party”

Gatebil has been on my bucketlist of automotive events for almost 20 years now. Based out of Norway, but running through Scandinavia it celebrates using the wildest cars in the region on a race track; and Scandos build their cars WILD.

Viper-powered FD RX-7s, turbo BMW 6pot swapped Volvos and Toyotas, off-their-head 5cyl Audis, ridiculous Lancias and Lotus and all sorts of stuff we don't see ANYWHERE else in the world. Gatebil has a static show, drifting, time attack, door-to-door racing, plus open track sessions where people drive like nutters. And they have a Gatebil Taxi so you can sample the madness, too.

How did it start? I don't actually know but I have heard it grew out of a social group of friends running track days. There are 5 Gatebil events over the European summer (late May-late Sept) with the big event their July event at Rudskogen Motorsenter in Norway, though the first event in Sweden (at Mantorp Park) is highly regarded too.

If you don't look at these pics and know why I want to go, check your pulse!
